I was delighted to be able explain the detail behind the Conservative Party’s commitment to British farming, and some of the ways in which the sector will be supported so it can thrive in a post-Brexit Britain. (2/2).

Farmers are a vital part of the UK economy, so it was great to be able to take part in the NFU hustings in Bishopsteington yesterday. It was a pleasure to meet some lovely people who asked really thought-provoking and insightful questions. (1/2).

I was at the Powderham Food Festival on Saturday enjoying the huge variety of local food on offer. It was great to see so many successful local businesses showcasing their excellent food and locally sourced ingredients, including Bishopsteignton’s own Shute Fruit!

I made clear to the Minister that the Government needs to work quickly to provide broadband infrastructure for those in our area who lack it. I also argued that we need to prioritise new superfast solutions for our remote homes and businesses, including state of the art 5G masts.

In the meantime, voucher schemes like the Government's Gigabit scheme can provide £500 for individuals or £2500 for businesses against the cost of a broadband connection, or more in rural areas. The link below has more information.

I was delighted that the Minister for Digital and Broadband responded this week to calls for an urgent meeting to discuss broadband in Devon and Somerset. We discussed next steps following the withdrawal of superfast broadband contracts previously awarded to Gigaclear.
